AMU Admission Important information and Rules

Aligarh Muslim University AMU Important information and Rules pertaining to admission for the session 2016-17 are as given below and are part of the Guide to Admissions which can be seen / downloaded from the Controller’s Office website:

AMU Admission Process for academic session 2016-2017

The candidate who applies for admission is advised to carefully read the same and it shall be presumed that he/she agrees to abide by the same.

1. All admissions shall be provisional.
2. Admissions to all courses of study as detailed in this Guide are open to Indian Nationals only. Candidates having other nationalities should refer to the relevant Guide for them.
3. The intake to all courses of study as detailed in this Guide, except those specifically mentioned for AMU Centres at Malappuram, Murshidabad and/or Kishanganj, implies intake at Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh only. However, the intake may change with the approval of the competent authority.
4. The University reserves the right not to admit any candidate to a course of study even though a notification inviting applications for admission to the same has been issued.
5. The candidate shall not be entitled to claim admission as a matter of right even if he/she is otherwise eligible. The University reserves the right to refuse admission to any individual without assigning any reason.
6. Canvassing in any manner for securing admission shall render a candidate disqualified.
7. Eligibility rules as specified for each course shall be strictly followed and shall not be relaxed under any circumstance. Candidate should satisfy himself/herself that he/she fulfills the eligibility requirements prescribed for admission to the concerned course of study.
8. A candidate shall be eligible for admission to a course of study if he/she has passed the qualifying examination and also fulfills all other eligibility requirements in terms of subjects studied, percentage of marks, age, etc. The percentage of marks secured by a candidate at the qualifying examination, falling short by even a decimal fraction shall not be rounded off to the next whole number. Similarly, if the age falls short or exceeds even by a single day, the candidate shall not be eligible for admission.
9. Candidates awaiting result of qualifying examination may also apply for admission with the clear stipulation that in the event of their selection they will be entitled to admission only if they fulfill all eligibility requirements of concerned course of study at the time of admission.
10. Physically challenged candidates are provided a relaxation in age up to a maximum of five years in admission to courses which prescribe a maximum age limit, except for those courses where such limits are prescribed by statutory/regulatory councils governing such admissions.
11. Changes, if any, made in the Admission Rules and/or in the eligibility criteria from time to time, shall be applicable to candidates seeking admission in the University even after notification.
12. For admission to a Course in the Faculties of Arts, Social Sciences, Science and Life Sciences where the qualifying examination is Bachelor’s degree, the candidates must ensure that they fulfill the eligibility requirement in terms of qualifying examination in respect of the Main Subject / Subsidiary Subject(s) / Major Subject(s) defined as follows:a)  Main Subject: The subject studied by the candidate in the First Year, Second Year and as only one subject in the Third Year at Bachelor’s degree level.

b) Subsidiary Subjects: Besides Main subject, other two subjects (excluding Compulsory / Vocational

Subjects) studied by the candidate in the First Year and Second Year at Bachelor’s degree Level.

c) Major Subject: If the candidate has studied only two subjects in the Third Year at Bachelor’s degree level from amongst the three subjects (excluding Compulsory / Vocational Subjects) studied in the First Year and Second Year, the same will be designated as Major Subject(s).

13. B.A./B.Sc./B.Com./B.Th./B.Sc.(Agriculture) degrees prescribed as the eligibility requirement for various Course of Studies in this Guide are three year Degree Courses under the 10+2+3 system of education.
14. The candidates are advised to refer to Table-I detailing ‘Matrix for Allowed Courses’ to ascertain the courses for which they are permitted to apply as per their qualification and eligibility.
15. Definition of Internal/External: An Internal candidate is one who has passed the qualifying examination conducted by THIS University as a regular student not earlier than THREE (3) academic years from the date of admission to the Course he/she is seeking admission to. And all other candidates shall be treated as External.Internal candidates should submit relevant documents with their Application Form in support of internal status, failing which they will be considered as External candidates.
16. Candidates are required to fill separate Application Forms for each course of study as detailed in this Guide. However, candidates should submit a single Application Form for courses for which a combined Test is to be conducted.
17. Application Forms shall not be transferred from one course of study to another under any circumstance.
18. Candidate should clearly specify his/her order of preference of Course / Branch / Main Subject / Stream / Specialization from among those listed under the course of study concerned. The order of preference indicated in the Application Form will not be changed, wherever applicable.
19. While applying for various courses of study, the candidate is advised to consult the schedule of Admission/Departmental Test which appears under each course of study, wherever applicable, so as to ensure that there is no clash in the Test schedule of various courses for which the candidate is applying for admission. The University assumes no responsibility if the candidate has opted for more than one course of study for which the Tests have been scheduled simultaneously.
20. No request for change in address for correspondence as specified in the Application Form shall be entertained.
21. For all courses where Selection Process is based on (or has a component of) candidate’s performance in the Qualifying Examination, the candidate must submit self attested photocopy of his/her marksheet / grade sheet of Qualifying Examination (both sides) so as to reach in the respective offices as given under each course of study up to 5:00 PM on or before June 18, 2016 failing which his/her Application Form will be summarily REJECTED.
22. If the candidate’s formal result of qualifying examination has not been declared on the last date of submission of the marks sheet of the qualifying examination, then he/she may submit self-attested copy of his/her Internet Downloaded Marks Sheet. The same shall be subject to verification from the Original Marks Sheet at the time of admission and in case of any discrepancy in the marks of individual subjects or aggregate, the offer of admission shall stand cancelled and no representation shall be entertained.
23. Application No./ R.No./ Transaction ID should be quoted for all queries or correspondence at the time of submission of required documents. The documents submitted without mentioning Application No./ R.No./ Transaction ID will not be considered. The receipt of the documents shall be given by the concerned office.
24. A candidate whose qualifying examination is not recognized by this University shall not be eligible for admission. All such Application Forms / admissions shall be rejected / cancelled.
25. No candidate shall be admitted unless he/she completes all the eligibility requirements at the time of admission. Candidates awaiting results of their Supplementary / Compartmental / Improvement examination shall not be considered for admission.
26. Application Forms may be rejected if :a) Received incomplete.
b) Not submitted on prescribed formc) Received without requisite fee,

d) Attached Demand Draft is not in favour of Finance Officer, A.M.U., payable at Aligarh

e) Received after the last date.

and no correspondence shall be entertained in this regard. No relaxation in the last date shall be granted. The University takes no responsibility for postal delay or non-receipt of Application Forms or any other communication related to admissions.

27. Admit Card to appear in the Admission / Departmental Test will be uploaded / issued by the University only to those candidates whose Application form, complete in all respects, has been received in the University on or before the last date of receipt as notified in this Guide.
28. No Admit Card shall be sent by post. For Admission Test Courses, Admit Cards will only be downloadable from the Controller’s

Candidates are required to paste their recent passport size colour photograph in the space provided on the downloaded Admit Card (same as affixed on the Application Form) and hand over the Admit Card to the Invigilator on duty at the Test Centre.

For Departmental Test courses, Admit Cards will not be posted. The Admit Cards will be issued one or two days before the Test from the Office where the candidate had submitted his/her Application Form.

29. The candidate should ensure that he/she has in his / her possession the proper Admit Card before he/she reaches the Test Centre. The candidate should contact immediately the Office concerned where he/she submitted his/her Application Form in case of any discrepancy in the Admit Card in order to avoid any last minute inconvenience. University assumes no responsibility whatsoever in the event of failure to report on the due date and time by the candidate for appearing in the Admission / Departmental Test.
30. The medium of all Tests shall be English, except where a question paper is set in a language other than English. The Test paper syllabi are given on the Controller’s website.
31. Scribe will be provided to the visually challenged candidates appearing in Admission/Departmental Test subject to the condition that the candidates must submit a written request for the same atleast seven days before the scheduled date of the Test in the Office where they submitted their Application Form. Blind candidates who have been provided with a Scribe may be given an additional time to the extent of 25% of the Test duration.
32. The University reserves the right to make changes in the notified Admission / Departmental Test Schedule.
33. In case any candidate who does not meet the eligibility criteria prescribed for the concerned course of study appears in the Admission / Departmental Test, he/she shall be doing so at his/her own risk and cost, and if at any stage, it is found that the candidate does not fulfil the eligibility requirements, the admission, if granted, shall be cancelled ipso facto.
34. No separate intimation letters will be sent to the candidates short-listed for interview/ selected/counseling for admission wherever applicable. The lists of candidates shortlisted for Interview/G.D./Counselling (wherever applicable) and the lists of those selected/counseling (wherever applicable) for admission will be displayed on the Notice Boards of the concerned Faculty/ College/Centre/Proctor’s Office/Controller’s website. The dates notified for Interview /G.D. /  Counselling (wherever applicable)/ Admission shall strictly be followed. It is the responsibility of the candidates to keep themselves informed from Notice Board(s)/ website or through their own sources whether their names appear in the displayed lists and thereby make timely arrangements to appear for Interview/G.D./Counselling(wherever applicable) or for completing the admission, as the case may be. The University shall not be responsible if a candidate fails to get information regarding his/her shortlisting for Interview/G.D./Counselling (wherever applicable) or selection for admission.
35. Admission to Test Courses are given through Counselling(wherever applicable) / Select List. No separate Intimation letters will be sent to the selected candidates for Counseling(wherever applicable) /Admission.
36. The University may issue or display `Waiting List/Chance Memo List’ in addition to the list of selected candidates. Chance Memo is not an offer of admission but is issued only in case there is likelihood of a vacancy due to any reason. Waiting List/Chance Memo list, if any, shall be displayed on the notice boards of the concerned Faculty / College / Centre / Proctor’s Office / Controller’s website. It is the responsibility of the candidate to keep track of all such notices. No separate intimation letters will be sent to the candidates offered Chance Memos.
37. Any seat that remains unfilled after the completion of admissions of candidates on the select list shall be filled up by the candidate who had reported with reference to his/her Chance Memo on the specified date and time as per the Chance Memo list, if any, strictly in order of Chance Memo Number. However, if such a vacancy arises after the closing date of admissions, the vacancy shall not be filled up and the same shall remain unfilled.
38. No correspondence shall be made to candidates not selected for admission and the documents / certificates shall not be returned. Similarly Test Fees/Processing Charges shall not be refunded.
39. Selected candidates shall be allotted Course/ Branch/ Main Subject/ Stream/ Specialization on merit as per their preference indicated in the Application Form, wherever applicable. A candidate who has been selected for a higher preference will have no claim for lower preferences, wherever applicable.The University reserves the right to allot Course/ Branch / Main Subject/ Stream/ Specialization to selected candidates over and above the preferences as indicated in their Application Form in the order of preference decided by the University.
40. A candidate provisionally admitted to a Course/Branch/Main Subject/Stream/ Specialization shall be upgraded automatically, on merit, to another Course/ Branch/ Main Subject/ Stream/ Specialization of higher preference in the event of a vacancy arising therein.However, a candidate admitted/upgraded to a Course/ Branch/ Main Subject/ Stream/ Specialization, wherever applicable shall be permitted to retain the same if he/she submits an undertaking on prescribed Proforma at the venue of admission on the date of his/her admission

/upgradation for not upgrading it any further.

41. Selected candidates shall not be allowed to complete admission formalities in absentia. Candidate not reporting for admission on the stipulated date and time, shall forfeit his/her claim for admission. The offer of admission shall stand cancelled and no correspondence in this regard shall be entertained.
42. No candidate shall be allowed to take admission to the same Course / Class (or its equivalent Course) which he/she has passed earlier.
43. Candidate is required to produce the original Marksheets/Certificates, including the statement of marks of the qualifying examination with the requisite percentage of marks at the time of reporting for admission/counselling(wherever applicable), failing which he/she shall not be allowed to complete the admission, and the offer of admission shall stand cancelled /withdrawn and no further correspondence in the matter shall be entertained. Those Marksheet /Gradesheet/ Certificates downloaded from the Internet shall be accepted which are attested by the Controller / Registrar / Issuing Authority of the awarding University at the time of admission.
44. The candidate selected for admission shall have to deposit the Original Marksheet of qualifying examination in the Office of the Dean/Principal/Coordinator/ Chairman concerned at the time of admission. The said Marksheets shall be returned to the respective candidates only after one month from the date of closure of all University admissions.
45. The candidates who do not possess the marksheet/gradesheet of qualifying examination on account of (i) its non-issuance by the concerned Board/University, or, (ii) result of qualifying
examination not declared formally, may be considered for provisional admission to the course concerned provided their Statement of Marks detailing the marks / grade obtained in each subject separately including total aggregate marks and percentage in a Confidential Sealed Cover on official stationary and with official stamped are received directly from the issuing authority of the concerned University / Board / Institution in the name of Controller of Examinations, AMU for its approval atleast one (01) day before the date of admission. The one day period will be counted excluding the day of admission.Statement of Marks issued/ verified / attested by the School / College or any person other than the issuing authority shall not be accepted.

Such candidates shall give an undertaking on prescribed Proforma to submit the Original Marksheet/Grade Sheet of the qualifying examination in the Office of the Dean / Principal / Coordinator/ Chairman concerned within ONE MONTH from the date of his/her provisional admission. If any discrepancy is found in the examination result of the aforesaid candidate or the original Marksheet/Grade sheet is not submitted within the stipulated time, the University reserves the right to cancel his/her admission.

46. No candidate shall be eligible to pursue a full-time course of study if he/she is already admitted to any full-time course of study in this University or any other University/Institution. Candidate pursuing any full time course of study is required to get his/her name removed from the rolls of the University/College/Institution where already admitted, and submit a certificate to this effect from the concerned authority at the time of reporting for admission to the course (including Evening Courses and Professional Courses under Centre for Professional Courses) for which he /she may have been provisionally selected.
47. Candidates enjoying employed status and selected for admission to any full-time course of study in the University, are required to produce leave sanction and relieving order at the time of admission from their employer for the duration of the course permitting them to pursue their studies at the University, failing which the offer of admission shall stand withdrawn.
48. The candidate selected for admission shall have to submit the Original Migration and Character Certificates from the Head of the Institution/University last  attended at the time of admission. Candidate who is not in a position to submit the Migration and/or Character Certificate at the time of admission, shall give an undertaking on prescribed Proforma to submit the same within ONE MONTH from the date of his/her provisional admission, failing which the University reserves the right to cancel his/her admission (Not applicable for Internal Candidates).
49. No candidate admitted to a full-time course of study in the University shall accept or hold any employment paid or otherwise or shall be full time student of any other Institution/University during the course of his/her study at the University except those specifically permitted by the University in accordance with rules.
50. The University reserves the right to get any student medically examined and if found medically unfit, the admission of such student will be cancelled.
51. If any error/omission in the processing/verification of certificates /documents of a candidate is detected after the candidate is admitted to a course in the University, the University has the right to cancel such admission at any stage at which the error/ omission is detected.
52. If it is found, at any stage, that a candidate 

a) does not fulfil the eligibility requirements

b) has used fraudulent means to secure admission

c) has made false or incorrect statement(s) in the application form

d) has not signed/marked thumb impression on the application form or somebody else has done so on his/her behalf.

He/she shall not be allowed to complete the admission formalities, or in case already admitted, his/her admission shall be cancelled, ipso facto.

53. In case of cancellation of admission by a candidate, after the closing date of admissions, the admission charges/fee of any kind paid by him/her will not be refunded.
54. Answer Sheets and other relevant material pertaining to the Admission / Departmental Test(s) of all the candidates and Application Forms of all the non-admitted candidates will be weeded out after 04 months of the Closing Date of Admissions. Therefore, in case of any dispute regarding admission, the matter must be filed within 04 months of the closing date of admissions after which the relevant records may not be made available.
55. Any dispute with regard to any matter relating to admission in the University and its Centres shall be subject to the jurisdiction of Local Courts at Aligarh and High Court of Judicature at Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh only.
56. The closing date for all admissions in the University, except those courses / categories for which separate notification will be made, is 14.08.2016. Any vacancy arising after this date in any course shall not be filled.

(i) Sr. Sec. School Cert/ Dip. Engg. Maximum Age Limit 19 / 21 years

(ii) Graduate Courses Maximum Age Limit 24 years

(iii) Postgraduate Courses Maximum Age Limit 27 years

Maximum Age Limit should be reckoned on 31 December of the year

Max. Age Limit as prescribed by the regulatory bodies wherever applicable should stand for that course.

Note : The Age Limit shall not be applicable in the Faculty of Medicine / Unani Medicine and for Foreign Nationals / NRIs and for those courses where the Age Limit is prescribed by the Regulatory Bodies.

58. In the exceptional circumstances the Vice-Chancellor on reasonable ground may change any of the above conditions.
